On a recent flight from Charlotte San Francisco a young man sat across the aisle from me. He was quiet and slept most of the flight but he stuck out. He was in a University of California at Berkley sweatsuit and had the number 35 on his school backpack. I saw him at baggage claim and again on the airport train that took us to the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) station. As I waited for my train and he waited for his I googled #35 on the Cal football roster. I saw his name was Ted Agu and he was from Bakersfield, CA. He had been a walk-on to the team and was a pre-med major. By reading that little bio on the school's web-site I could tell this was a kid I could pull for. I remember thinking I need to check the stats this Fall to see if Ted got to play much. Well last night when I pulled up espn.com I saw a headline saying Ted had passed away after a training run. I was saddened. Two weeks earlier I had never heard of him and if I hadn't looked him up that day I would have just skipped past the article. Not sure what all this means but wanted to share.
