Feed the birds

The 1964 Disney classic movie Mary Poppins has been in the news a lot lately. The recently released Saving Mr Banks tells the story of Walt Disney's challenges in getting Mary Poppins made. Mary Poppins is a classic movie with a great soundtrack. One song from the film, Feed The Birds, was a personal favorite of Walt's and mine. The chorus says it all:

Feed the birds, tuppence a day.

What does tuppence mean? Well I looked it up and it means a small amount of money. That is the message of the song. Feed the birds and make them happy for almost nothing. It is an easy thing to do and it won't cost you much. There is a deeper meaning in the movie but I recommend you watch it if you have not seen it recently.

I love to feed the birds. I put large amounts of seed on our back deck and I just sit there and enjoy watching a variety of types of birds come and eat. It is always exciting to see a new bird come to the deck but I also enjoy seeing the usual cast of characters. Squirrels are another story but at least they are getting fat and happy too.

So if you get a chance....feed the birds and enjoy watching them.....for only tuppence.

Until tomorrow,
Dave
