Polar Vortex

Last week saw record low temperatures throughout much of the eastern half of the United States. The phenomena that brought this cold air from the Arctic is called a polar vortex. Pretty cool name for some strong winds from the North. I'm not one for writing about the weather but I realized something during the cold snap. I've become soft. I can't handle the cold. Charlotte saw single digits for the first time in many years. It only lasted two days but it quickly reminded why I packed up and headed south 16 years ago. I can't imagine living in part of the country like Minnesota or Michigan where those temperatures are a regular occurrence and last for weeks. The cold makes everything difficult. Going to the grocery store becomes a painful event that requires layering and warming up the car. I've become spoiled living in the south and if global warming decides to reverse courses Florida may be calling our name.

Until tomorrow,
Dave
